Georgia: Regarding the new teachers’ pay policy, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia would like to inform society that various individuals, representatives of the organization, and media outlets have deliberately attempted to damage this most critical process and suppress the salary reform.
False information is spreading, as if teachers are getting lower salaries and, at the expense of leading and mentoring teachers, pay increases for senior teachers.
There was always talk from the Ministry that the salary of 70% of the teachers’ building would increase by an average of 500 GEL. In addition, the Prime Minister said that with the new salary system, the salary of 70% of teachers would be increased by 500, 600, 700, and 800 GEL; in the case of 25% of teachers, the increase will be 300-400 GEL; no teacher’s salary will be reduced, and 5% salary will be increased by at least 200 GEL.
Despite the explanations made so far and numerous meetings with teachers, due to the high interest of teachers, we offer simulations of mentor and lead teachers salary increments, providing the difference between old and new pay.
The decision regarding the new teachers’ pay policy was not taken lightly. It was the result of extensive research, numerous meetings with teachers, and most importantly, the active involvement of the general public. This decision was made with the best interests of the teachers’ body and the growth of the quality of education in mind, a testament to our commitment to transparency and public trust.
The Education Ministry urges everyone, teachers, media, and the general public, to play their part in this important process. Please refrain from circulating unverified information and deliberately misleading society. Together, they can ensure that the truth prevails and that the benefits of the new pay policy are fully understood.
