Georgia: At a ceremony held in Orbeliani Palace, the professors of Ilia State University (ISU) Ketevan Chanrturia and Merab Svanadze were awarded the National Prize of 2023.
At the Palace, the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, congratulated the professors on their success and awarded state awards to the winners.
Ketevan Chanturia is a professor at London Kings College and Ilia State University. He is a recognized expert in clinical psychology and ranks 5th in the world for his research.
In 2021, Ketevan Chanturia was awarded by the British Psychologists Society for her contribution to British psychology. In 2023, he was elected president of the International Association for Research of Eating Disorders (out of 30 former presidents, he is the first Georgian and only the third from Britain to hold this prestigious position).
Professor Merab Svanadze’s expertise in mechanical engineering and transportation has earned him a place in the top 2% of the world’s best scientists at Stanford University. This is a remarkable achievement, especially considering that only eight scientists from Georgia are represented, three of whom are professors at Ilia State University.
Professor Merab Svanadze is a member of several international scientific societies. These include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineering, the American Mathematical Society, the New York Academy of Sciences, the International Society of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, the European Society of Mechanics, the European Society of Biomechanics, the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the International Society for the Forovan Environment.
He is an associate editor of the Journal of Thermal Stresses (Taylor & Francis, Impact factor 2.8 ), a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal Acta Mechanica (Springer, Impact factor 2.7), and a reviewer of 31 international science journals.
In a congratulatory speech, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said, “Young people from our generation need a correct and dignified example. Nothing happens in life without knowledge and hard work. Those people who were elected to their fields are a great example of honor for our country.”
