Georgia: Within the framework of the project “Reduction of the Risk of Disasters Caused by Climate Change in Georgia,” the Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC) organized a working meeting on climate change with academic staff of partner universities. Participants discussed climate change policies at the international and local levels.

The meeting was opened by Tamar Aladashvili, Director of the Environmental Information and Education Center, who discussed the importance of integrating climate change and disaster risk management issues into the learning process.

During the briefing, the participants had the opportunity to share knowledge and experience on important issues such as disaster safety rules, mechanisms for risk assessment, calculation and use of data, practical tools and their use, the importance of agrometeorology on climate change and disaster risk management, and Provision of trees and climate services for farmers.

Expert of the Environmental Information and Education Center (EIEC), Archil Maghalashvili, presented the working version of the climate change and disaster risk management training module. Given the importance and relevance of the issue, the meeting agreed that shortly, it is necessary to be developed and implemented in higher or vocational education as a subject – mitigating the risk of disasters caused by climate change.

Experts in the field and representatives of relevant organizations and universities attended the working meeting.

The meeting was held within the framework of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) project “Reducing the risk of disasters caused by climate change in Georgia“, which is being implemented with the support of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), as well as the governments of Georgia, Sweden and Switzerland.
