The Georgian Delegation is presently in Berlin, Germany to attend the 74th Berlin International Film Festival. They members of the delegation held some meetings with different foreign colleagues.
In the very first meeting, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia along with the Acting Director of the National Cinema Center of Georgia Koba Khubunaya and the representatives of the National Cinema Centre, Georgian directors and producers met the Head of European Cinema Promotion (EFP) Sonia Heinen.
At the meeting, the issue of participation of Georgian directors, producers, and Georgian films in various programs of “Promotion of European Cinema” was discussed. Both sides discussed the future cooperation between both countries in the field of cinema as well.
The Georgian delegation also met the programmer of the Venice Film Festival Paolo Bertolini. Here they discussed the latest Georgian films which have the opportunity to enter the festival.
The delegation held another meeting with Locarno Film Festival programmer Stefan Ivancic. The Delegation introduced to him the latest Georgian films which can be entered at the Locarno Film Festival competition as well.
At the meeting with Veronica Encrenaz Director of the Anesi Film Festival Market (MIFA) the parties discussed Georgian animation projects along with the presentation of the Georgian stand at the Anesi Film Fest that is going to be held in June and November 2024.
The delegation met Christopher Lepark Head of the Director’s Fortnight section of Cannes Film Festival and Director of Cinemede (Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival). Representatives of the Cinema Center of Georgia introduced new Georgian films to Christopher Lepark. They talked about the screening of films restored by the film centre at the Montpellier Film Festival.
The Georgian representative said that the meetings of the Georgian delegation with representatives of the film industry and cinema sphere will continue actively during the festival.
It is to be specifically mentioned that from 15 to 25 February 74th International Film Festival is being held in Berlin. Moreover, this European Film Market (EFM) will be held on 15-21 February as well.
Several directors and producers in the delegation will be able to meet representatives of different production companies and make plans both for creating joint productions and also for developing the country’s film industry. This will help strengthen international associations of Georgian filmmakers and the success of their ongoing projects.
EFP wants to build an international network that will unite film organizations from 37 countries. Among them is the National Center of Cinematography of Georgia is main.
The Georgia representative stated that Georgian and European cinema have had a close relationship over the decades. The representative delegation of the Georgian Film Center is present at this year’s “Berlinale” to deepen this relationship and new cooperation prospects.
