9 GNFC projects move to second stage of competition

Georgia: The Georgian National Film Centre (GNFC) projects that have moved to the second stage of the competition for financing short films have been revealed.

The Commission of Experts (jury) has identified the projects as prescribed by the law, and they have moved to the second stage of the competition—”Financing of the Production of Short Feature Films”—announced by the National Center of Cinematography of Georgia.

Nine projects moved to the next stage after the competition:

  • “Observatory” – Director and producer Mariam Karkashadze;
  • “Jerael” – director and producer Tengiz Asitashvili;
  • “They shot me” – Director and producer Giorgi Kacharava;
  • “Lilia” – director and producer Genadi Tsaava;
  • “Flowers” – Director David Kvartskava, producer Tamaz Orashvili;

  • “Operation 121” – director and producer Mevlud Sabashvili;
  • “Tragedy with a hero” – director and producer Revaz Nasidze.

The jury decided to move to the stage after the majority of votes made the competition of nine projects.

The National Cinema Center allocated 200,000 GEL for the competition, and the total requirement of nine projects is 802 438,43 GEL.

The projects were discussed by the first expert committee (jury), “SSP National Center of Cinematography of Georgia,” on May 2, 2024. The cast was, by chance, Erekle Tripolski (film director), Giorgi Pipinashvili (actor), Ketevan Trapaidze (cinematographer), Kakhaber Macharashvili (producer), and Khat Una Khundadze (film director, producer).

The projects on which the first panel of the Expert Committee (jury) has made a favorable decision will be discussed at the next stage of the competition by the second panel of the expert committee, which will announce the final winners of the competition.

The individual administrative-judicial act of the Director of the National Cinema Center of Georgia forms the second panel of the expert commission. It includes four members: two producers, two financiers/film production specialists, or an invited person of the same profession.

The second committee will decide on the refusal to fund/fund the project. Results will be announced by June 21, 2024.
