Georgia: The Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili, held the final meeting on the “Amendments to the National Waste Management Strategy 2016-2030 and the Draft National Waste Management Action Plan 2022-2026” with a welcome speech.
The Deputy Minister thanked the contributor and partner organizations for their involvement and financial support in the project development process and spoke at length about the importance of waste management for the country.
“As you know, effective waste management is especially important for the development of the green economy. “Measures taken in this direction show the progress that the country has made in the field of environment,” – said Solomon Pavliashvili.
“I am glad that we had the opportunity to participate in the development of the National Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan. Waste management is an important challenge for Georgia. As a result of successful joint work, we were able to develop a waste management guidance document for the country. I hope that the implementation process will be effective as well,” said Alexander Daras, head of the EU Delegation Group.
The National Waste Management Strategy for 2016-2030, together with the development and implementation of waste management legislation in line with EU requirements and international conventions, aims to introduce waste prevention and recycling practices in Georgia.
It should be noted that the Draft Amendments to the National Waste Management Strategy 2016-2030 and the National Waste Management Action Plan 2022-2026 were developed with the financial support of EU4Environment and with the participation of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center (REC Caucasus) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
The meeting was attended by the heads of the relevant service of the Ministry and stakeholders.
