Georgia: The Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture organized trainings on disaster management, which play a crucial role in managing the complex risks of climate change.
They are not just trainings, but a key tool in establishing an early warning system for rangers, spokespersons, and inspectors of the Department of Environmental Protection and Environmental Supervision, making them indispensable to our cause.
An important issue is strengthening the capacity of climate change risk management at the local level and upskilling rangers, spokespersons, and inspectors in municipalities through training. Strengthening the capacities of these target groups and local government representatives will lead to coordinated actions for timely response to natural threats and potential risks posed by climate change, which involves pre-identifying natural processes such as extreme weather events or sea level rise, or in case of extreme activation, to the national environment. Cooperation with the Agency and Emergency Situations Management Service”, – said the Environmental Defense Tamar Aladashvili, the Information and Education Center director.
The training was conducted under the project ‘Reduction of the risk of disasters caused by climate change in Georgia,’ a joint effort by the Georgian Government, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the governments of Switzerland and Sweden, and supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This collaborative effort unites us all as part of a larger community working towards a shared goal.
The primary goal of the training is to enhance the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the 200 rangers, spokespersons, and environmental supervision department inspectors from 31 municipalities. This will equip them with the necessary tools for a timely response to potential risks. This clarity ensures that everyone is fully informed and aligned with the program’s objectives.
