Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture revealed three cases of illegal fishing in Lower Kartli, Shida Kartli, and Kakheti.

In Rustavi, on the Mtkvari River, two citizens caught illegal fishing from an inflatable boat, using an electric fishing weapon. They had illegally acquired 15 kg of stingray fish. While examining the fact, one of the poachers caused physical injuries to an employee of the Lower Kartli Regional Administration of the Department, with a shovel in his area and escaped.

Accordingly, the police started an investigation into the mentioned fact under the relevant article of the Criminal Code—in addition to illegal fishing, also with the article of violence.

Illegal fishing was carried out by using inflatable boats and electric weapons from the river Mtkvari river bank near the village of Gomi of Khashuri municipality. Law breakers had illegally obtained more than 9 kg of fish stingrays.

Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department have revealed one more fact of illegal fishing in Kakheti, near the village Kalauri of Gurjaani municipality, on the river Alazan. The offender had illegally obtained 4 kg of stingray fish using a fisherman’s electric weapon.

Because these facts also contain signs of criminal offenses, materials were sent to the appropriate authorities for the purpose of further response.

Crews from the Department of Environmental Protection are carrying out 24-hour non-stop patrolling across the country to prevent, detect and detect illegal forestry, poaching, fishing and other environmental violations in a timely manner. In addition, an immediate response is made to each message received on the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture’s hotline (153).
