Georgia: The Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture have revealed the fact of illegal hunting in the Lower Kartli region of Georgia.
The Environmental Supervision Department shared the details about this information on its official Facebook page on March 5, 2025, Wednesday.
According to the details shared by the Environment Department, it should be noted that near the village of Tetritskaro municipality, poachers killed themselves. The offenders had unregistered hunting rifles with them.
It is also noteworthy that the amount of damage caused to the environment as a result of violation of law is 5 thousand GEL.
Notably, on the fact of poaching revealed by the employees of the Environmental Supervision Department, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Tetritskaro Regional Authority of the Lower Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Interior has started an investigation under the second part of the Criminal Code 301.
It is illegal for any person required to obtain a hunting license under Code Section 27-2-1 to hunt animals or birds in the Country.
The mentioned offense is punishable by a fine of either up to two years of corrective work, imprisonment of up to three years of imprisonment, or deprivation of the right to hold an office or work for up to three years.
It is to be added that the Department of Environmental Supervision crews carry out continuous 24-hour patrolling throughout the country to prevent and detect illegal forestry, poaching, fishing, and other environmental violations promptly. In addition, immediate response is given to each message received on the hotline (153) of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.
Illegal Hunting is a serious problem that threatens the biodiversity and sustainability of the living resources in Georgia. The department encourages the citizens of the country to consider that hunting is prohibited.
