Ethnographic Museum celebrates “Tbilisioba” holiday

With the support of the Georgian Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ethnographic Museum of Tbilisi, named after Giorgi Chitaia, hosted various events to celebrate the "Tbilisioba" holiday.

Tbilisi, Georgia: With the support of the Georgian Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ethnographic Museum of Tbilisi, named after Giorgi Chitaia, hosted various events to celebrate the “Tbilisioba” holiday.

On October 5 and 6 (12:00 to 16:00), the traditions and culture of different regions of Georgia will be represented through large-scale events.

Deputy Minister Koba Khubunaia visited the Ethnographic Museum on the first day of the events. Events are free to attend. The Museum’s minibus is served from Turtle Lake.

Notably, after several decades of interruptions, the Ethnographic Museum celebrates “Tbilisioba” for the third year and offers visitors a diverse and exciting program.

In the Museum’s Odehouses, different regions of Georgia are represented by singing, dancing, an exhibition of handmade items, or traditional culinary masterclasses. For the second year, children from the region are also participating in the celebration.

On October 5, the following events were held according to the corners of Georgia during the “Tbilisioba” holiday:

  • Shida Kartli—Various exhibitions, old Georgian wrestling, a masterclass of soft baking in Tone, baking masterclasses, folklore events, and a wine corner.
  • Kvemo Kartli – diverse ethnographic exhibition, traditional cuisine masterclasses, folklore events, puppet theatre performance.
  • Guria – Ethnographic
  • Performances, diverse exhibitions, traditional culinary masterclasses, harvest-settling ethnographic rituals, and folklore events.
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti – Various exhibitions, Mokheuri and Khevsuri cuisine masterclasses, folklore events, and wine corner.
  • Racha – ethnographic performances, hospitality rituals, diverse exhibitions, folklore events, wine corner.
  • Svaneti – Ancient Svan cuisine masterclasses, Svaneti rituals and folklore events.
  • Samegrelo – diverse exhibitions, Megrelian cuisine exhibition, folklore events.
  • Adjara – Exhibition of Ethnographic Samples, Retsvi Master Classes, Adjarian Folklore Events.
  • On October 6 (12:00 to 16:00) in the Ethnographic Museum, the following events are planned according to angles:
  • Abkhazia: diverse exhibitions, revival of Abkhazian traditions, presentation of culinary samples, folklore events, and a wine corner.
  • Administration of South Ossetia – Presentation of Ossy ethnography and traditions, culinary masterclasses, Ossy folklore events.
  • Adjara – Exhibition of Ethnographic Samples, Retsvi Master Classes, Adjarian Folklore Events.
