Tbilisi: The European Union has decided to suspend visa free entry for all those who possessed diplomatic passport of Georgia. A higher official of European Union, Kaja Kallas made this crucial announcement which stunned everyone in Georgia.
It is worth to note that, Georgian Government currently being led by Georgian Dream has come under severe attack from opposition parties. Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy made this significant announcement Yesterday.
She was speaking about this ban during a meeting with foreign minister of countries which are member of European Union. The meeting is being held at Brussels where these comments were passed by Kaja Kallas.
She also revealed that this move has been taken against the backdrop of decision of Georgian government to suspend talks about accession to European Union till 2028. Moreover, this is also aimed to highlight growing threat to peaceful protests by Georgian authorities also.
Kaja Kallas also underlined that “This is very unfortunate to see that a democratic country is using so many undemocratic methods to stifle independent media voices. These undemocratic acts of Georgian government have forced us to take strict decision.”
Notably EU have already cut funding for Georgia along with downgrading political contracts with Georgia. She reiterated that, we always stand with people who are fighting for democratic values of country.
She said it is responsibility of Georgian Dream to make efforts to restore faith of people of Georgia in its democracy. It is also to be noted that European Union have already given a task to prepare drafting of formal proposals and this will be submitted by it very soon in time ahead.
In this meeting attendees at same time discuss in detail about other sanction that can be imposed against the Georgan Dream, the party which have came to rule second time in row.
Although majority of member of European Union want to impose strict sanction against the Georgia but some members resist this. The countries like Hungary and Slovakia with their resistance have delayed this process of sanction against Georgia.
