The European Union, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the Swedish agencies are working to improve healthy nutrition practices in rural areas of Georgia. The main target is to enhance healthy nutrition in rural schools.
It is worth noting that all of these organizations, such as European Unions, Sweden, and FAO, have just launched a new initiative in Apheni village of eastern Lagodekhi Municipality. The project will increase children’s awareness of the importance of healthy eating habits.
The office of the Food and Agriculture Organisation in Georgia has also issued a statement about the project. On this occasion, an impressive event was held attended by 42 participants from the eighth to twelfth grades.
These participating schools have learned many new things about vegetables and their vital role in a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, they knew the various other benefits of a healthy lifestyle under the ENPARD IV program.
Guido Agostinucci, the Programme Manager of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation), while speaking on the occasion said that “ these school students are the future of the country. In the coming years, this generation will play a great role in enhancing the progress of the country.”
According to experts students should know the importance of food security to prevent food wastages. Moreover, food waste prevention is a must to ensure safe, high-quality products for their families. This will also ensure safer food for Georgian consumers and consumers in foreign countries beyond Georgia.
While expressing his views Denis Reiss, the Programme Officer for Sustainable Food Systems at the European Union’s delegation to Georgia underlined the importance of food safety also.
Notably, Food and Agriculture organization have till now successfully organized 57 educational events in a number of schools.
These events benefitted 1,438 school students. The majority of events were held in the Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, and Samegrelo regions of Georgia.
