European Union’s council extend support to Georgian citizens for EU Integration

The council of European Union have again extended its support to citizens of Georgia who are fighting for integration in European Union.

Tbilisi: The council of European Union have again extended its support to citizens of Georgia who are fighting for integration in European Union. It also criticises the Georgian authorities for violating human rights of people who are protesting peacefully.

It is worth to note the government of Georgia under regime of Georgian Dream recently suspended talks for accession to European Union. Since the day Government has decided this move large number of protestors have taken to streets.

The protesters are also holding rallies in capital city Tbilisi just outside the parliament against this move of Government. Moreover, protesters demanded immediate cancelling this order and resumption of talks for integration of country into European Union.

The council also warned Georgian government especially the officials and representatives of the Georgian Dream for action if atrocities not stopped against innocent and peaceful protests.

It is also to be noted that European Council while reacting sharply to current events also condemned violence and use of excessive force by Georgia law enforcement agencies. The council said this is illegal move to stifle independent media voices throughout country with use of excessive force as well.

It also encouraged the investigation agencies of Georgia to investigate the matter deep and investigating incident of violence against innocent protester as well.  The statement of European Council also underscored that, the Georgian authorities need to address the issues such as outstanding visa liberalisation benchmarks, which should be as per EU visa policy.

These benchmarks also called for reducing unfounded asylum applications and ensuring compliance with fundamental rights requirements throughout the country also. Council while staring further in its report also extend full support to EU-Georgia Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area.

At the same time, it reaffirmed the EU’s “unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty, independence  and territorial integrity as per international parameters. The ruling party the Georgian Dream have faced heat of protests multiple time this year.
