Georgia: The First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Shalva Gogoladze held a working meeting with President of the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF), Antonio Conflitti on December 28, 2024, Saturday.
He also met with Aleksandru Padure, a representative of the European Federation, and Atila Adamfis, the vice president of the International Weightlifting Federation.
The European Championship and tournament organization concerns were reviewed during the meeting. The event is scheduled to take place in Batumi in 2026. The conversation touched upon deepening cooperation with Europe and international federations and promoting the development of weightlifting in Georgia.
Kakhi Kakhiashvili, President of the National Weightlifting Federation of Georgia, attended the meeting held at the Ministry of Sports. At the meeting, Shalva Gogoladze noted that Georgia is ready to host the 2026 European Championship at a high level.
It is to remind the public that Batumi will host the European Weightlifting Championship in 2026 by the decision of the European Weightlifting Federation. European Championship will be held in Batumi for the second time. For the first time, the championship was held in 2019.
The event received the highest rating of the European Federation and was even called the Championship of the Future. During the 2026 championship, more than a thousand guests will visit Ajara – representatives of both sports and international media and fans. The championship of the continent will be broadcast live in 160 countries.
