Exhibition of treasures and Shuamti Monastery opens in Telavi Historical Museum

An exhibition of treasures and Shaumti Monastery was opened today in the Telavi Historical Museum in connection with the 30th anniversary of the reconstruction of the New Shuamti Onion Monastery.

Telavi: An exhibition of treasures and Shaumti Monastery was opened today in the Telavi Historical Museum in connection with the 30th anniversary of the reconstruction of the New Shuamti Onion Monastery.

It was opened With the support of the National Museum of Georgia and Telavi Historical Museum and the initiative of Shaumti Mothers Monastery.

Metropolitan Bishop David of Abba Alaverde, Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Nikoloz Aznaurashvili, Director of the State Museum of Art named after Shalva Amiranashvili, Mayor of Telavi Levan Andriashvili, Head of the New Shuamti Monastery Ghumenia Ioana, representatives of the National Manuscript Center, and other guests attended the exhibition’s opening.

The exhibition presents icons, church items, and manuscripts of the new Shuamti Monastery, as well as seven exhibits donated to the Shuamti Monastery in the gold fund (treasure) of the Shalva Amiranashvili State Museum of Art: six rings and one fire brigade.

Three manuscripts are presented from the National Manuscript Center- Tipicon, Ioane Okropiri Mate’s explanations and collection.

At the exhibition’s opening, a short film depicting the history of the new Shuamti Monastery was shown. The exhibition in Telavi Historical Museum will continue until November 15, 2024.

Telavi Historical Museum

Telavi Historical Museum is located on the “Batonis Tsikhe” territory, where many collections are gathered. The Georgian folk musical instruments preserved in the museum are fascinating in that they preserve relatively simple and archaic forms.

The museum presents exhibitions from museum foundations, as well as exhibitions of modern Georgian and foreign artists.  Joint exhibition of Lithuanian and Georgian illustrators – “Language of Drawing”

The museum also exhibits many items related to the Georgian traditional table. Ketevan Iashvili’s art gallery is also part of the museum. 187 exhibits from the private collection are protected and exhibited in the museum.
