An fashion event has been organised to provide females prisoners an get theself social . At this event female prisoners presented their self-made cloth designs for attendees.
As per the representatives of the Justice Ministry the female convicts prepared clothing designs and handmade accessories with their designs and presented them to the public and jury members with professional models.
It is worth noting that the prisoners learned how to make clothes and jewellery in Penitentiary No. 5 within the framework of the “Fashion Design Program” which was implemented by Bidisi Academy and the organization “Leader Women’s Society”.
The demonstration was held with the support of the mentioned organisations and with the assistance of the Ministry of Justice. On this occasion the first Deputy Minister of Justice Tamar Tkeshelashvili and heads of the Penitentiary Service attended the event. Tamar Tkeshelashvili emphasised the importance of implementing training programs and professional courses for convicts.
According to the minister this program will allow prisoners to spend their time productively and self-realize. After release it will promote their effective resocialisation, employment, income increase and prevention of repeated crimes.
It is to be added that female prisoners were given the opportunity to present their works for the first time in June of this year at the Venice International Fashion Week.
They presented models decorated with various accessories, including leather and felt. Today the convicts have been offered a new collection to the public.
The event attendees also attended the exhibition and sale of products from the “Re-Market” store” made by prisoners of various penitentiary institutions across Georgia.
Those who wished could also buy the clothes and accessories presented at the show. The amount received from the sale represents the income of the convicts. The last moments of the event were very heart-warming and emotional.
The attendees learned that one prisoner would be released due to the adoption of the amnesty law. The key speaker of the event expressed hope that other female prisoners will also benefit from this program.
