Tbilisi: Irakli Antadze, the deputy head of the analytical department of the State Security Service of Georgia, stated on Friday that five Georgian citizens remained in the illegal detention of the de facto authorities of the Russian occupied
de-facto Tskhinvali region in Central Georgia.
Prior to the Ergneti incident prevention and the response mechanism meeting, the Security Service head confirmed that five Georgian citizens, namely Gela Iobashvili and Nukri Kalashnikov, were recently arrested by the Russian-occupation forces on charges of ‘illegal crossing of the border’. While the remaining three Georgians, Mamuka Chkhikvadze, Kakhaber Natadze and Lasha Khetereli, have been in illegal custody for the past several months now.
The security officials had informed journalists that Russian occupation forces detained Iobashvili, a resident of Perevi village, Sachkheri municipality, in western Georgia, on September 14, noting that Information was not transferred via the hotline that is administered and managed by the European Union Monitoring Mission.
As per Antadze, the security service was notified on Thursday about the so-called Tskhinvali court sentencing the man to two months in pre-trial custody.The official, though didn’t specify,when Kalashnikov, a resident of Kareli municipality in central Georgia, was detained by the Russian occupation forces.
The capital city of Georgia is expected to voice out the issue of the release of the illegally detained individuals at today’s meeting, along with other issues.
