Employees of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Forest Service revealed the fact of illegal acquisition and transportation of large quantities of trees in the Bakuriani-Tsagveri forest district. Violation of the law was recorded through a video trap placed in the state forest.
A resident found 6 cubic meters of illegal gasoline in the state forest, transported by a high-speed car.
An administrative violation warrant was filed against the lawbreaker. The vehicle was stolen, and the illegally obtained trees, for further disposal, have been moved to the work yard of the sewer.
“One of the main goals of the planned reform in the forest sector is to strengthen the monitoring and control of the forests. According to the reform, the function of physical protection of the forest is returned to the National Forest Agency. Accordingly, the number of forest guards is planned to increase. “To implement the monitoring effectively, the agency’s technological rearmament with modern means is also considered, which will significantly reduce the likelihood of illegally extracting timber,” said Besik Amiranashvili, the head of the National Forest Agency.
Employees of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Forestry Service have uncovered a large-scale case of illegal logging and transportation of timber in the Bakuriani–Tsaghveri forest district. The violation was detected using a video trap camera installed in the state forest.
A resident illegally harvested 6 cubic meters of coniferous saw timber in the state forest and was transporting it using a high-clearance vehicle.
An administrative offense report was drawn up against the offender. The vehicle was sealed, and the illegally harvested timber was transferred to the Tsaghveri operations yard for further procedures.
“One of the main objectives of the planned reform in the forestry sector is to strengthen forest monitoring and control. According to the reform, the function of physical forest protection will be returned to the National Forestry Agency. Accordingly, an increase in the number of forest rangers is planned. To ensure effective monitoring, the Agency will also be equipped with modern technological tools, which will significantly reduce cases of illegal logging,” stated Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency.
