Tbilisi: As demand for investigating election fraud grows in Georgia election of October 26 , the major European countries have called on the Georgian administration to change its current policies.
A joint statement in this regard was issued today by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
All the heads of their respective governments expressed serious concern about the political situation in Georgia.
They also expressed their helplessness to provide any help to Georgia unless and until the Georgian government brings significant changes in its national and regional policies.
Moreover they called upon Georgia to get support for European Integration, a long-pending aspiration of Georgia. Georgia have recently gained the status of a candidate country from the European Counsel.
While extending their support for investigating the poll day election code violation, they also asked that a fairly impartial and transparent investigation be conducted regarding all complaints about election fraud and other violations.
All three of them issued this statement as members of the so-called Weimar Triangle. They focused especially on the fact that the time has come to bring transparency to the workings of the Georgian government. Moreover, without the protection of citizens’ rights, nothing can be achieved in a democratic set up.
According to their leader, unless the controversial foreign agent’s law is repealed to accommodate public opinion, it will be very difficult for the US to support Georgia in its path toward the European Union.
The provisions of the foreign agent’s law also contradict European values and the principle of free and independent media voices.
They expressed serious concern about the incident of violation regarding the election and demanded an independent investigation of all allegations regarding the election result manipulation.
The statement from three leader come ahead of meeting of leaders in Hungary to discuss situation of Ukraine in detail. It is also expected that Prime Minister Georgia will also attend this meeting, which almost 50 other world leaders will attend.
