In the desert village of Sagarejo municipality, near the Chichkhituri tower, the public holiday of “Garejobi” was celebrated with a grand event on June 27, 2026.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the public holiday and the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as a state religion, the event was held with a different concept; the main theme was the history of the David Gareji monastery complex from the 6th century to the present.
“Garehttps://georgiaonline.ge/category/georgia/joba” in Kakheti, State Trustee, Platon Kalmakhelidze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili, Mayor of Sagarejo Municipality Vakhtang Kakutashvili, and Chairman of the City Council Alexi Gilashvili were present.
Guests who came to the holiday were met with different thematic spaces, horse riding was held, master classes of traditional Georgian dishes, and wine tasting were held.
Various theatrical scenes were presented on the territory. A performance was held, where actors Beknu Kafianidze and Gia Japaridze revived the history of Gareji. In parallel with the performance on the stage, there was a sand painting performance on the screen, which was presented by Nona Giunashvili.
At the end of the performance, the government representatives addressed the guests who came to the public holiday with a welcome speech and congratulated them on “Garejoba”.
On the celebration of “Garejoba”, honorable Garejis were named for their special contribution to the development of Sagarejo municipality: Archbishop of Ninotsminda and Sagarejo Luka (Lomidze), Metropolitan of Abba Alaverdi David (Makharadze), Metropolitan of Gori and Athens Andria (Gvazava), Bichiko Sulikashvili, Giorgi Zuliashvili, Bidzina Songulashvili, and Tengiz Okrotsvaridze.
“Garejoba” ended with a concert, in which the folklore ensembles near the House of Culture participated: “Gareji”, “Chinar”, “Berikatsbi”, “Kasletila”, “Lale” and “Little Garejeli”, studio “Mi Re La” and “Camerton”, singers – Beka Ghvinashvili, Gurami Ghvinashvili, Sopho Amirejibi, Rati Mezvrishvili and Nini Orkoshveli.
