Tbilisi: The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, on Monday congratulated Germany on their Unity Day celebrations while he praised the ties between the countries that have been at an ‘all-time high.’
Garibashvili addressed the attendees of the event held by the German embassy in Tbilisi to celebrate the anniversary of the reunification of Eastern and Western Germany in 1990. The Georgian leader noted that – “Georgia and Germany have developed friendly ties and become reliable partners that are connected by shared values of freedom and democracy and common interests”.
He further added; “In the last decade, our relations have reached an all-time high status and a qualitatively new level. Over the past 30 years of re-establishment of diplomatic relations, our countries have created fruitful multi-dimensional cooperation across a variety of fields.”
As per Garibashvili, the fall of the Berlin Wall symbolises division, war and rejection with the historic moment leading to the unification of the Germans, moving ahead with a vision to fulfil the cherished dreams of many generations.
In the example of a united Germany, we all see what the people can achieve in a united impulse. We look upon how Germans coexist peacefully, creating a free society, with human rights, establishing the rule of law with a strong democratic foundation and prosperous economy”, Garibashvili stated.
Germany is a role model, which Georgia looks forward to as the country is currently facing similar challenges which Germany faced but overcame successfully three decades back.
Germany has developed as one of the leading countries of the European Union, having strengthened itself as the political, economic and financial centre of Europe, which contributes to establish peace and prosperity across the continent,” he said, adding his country appreciated Germany’s role as a “leading development partner efficiently delivering assistance through German institutions, in line with the country’s development priorities”.
