Georgia: The fifth session of the Civil-Military Standing Committee of Airspace was held in the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia or the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency (GCAA).
Georgian Civil Aviation Agency (GCAA) oversees the development and monitoring of civil aviation in Georgia, implements state administration and safety oversight in this area, creates rules and guidelines, supervises their implementation, and offers associated services. Â
At the meeting, which was chaired by the director of the agency Givi Davitashvili, current and topical issues of strategic and operational planning of airspace were discussed.
The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Defense, Civil Aviation Agency, “Aeronavigation” Ltd., Ministry of Internal Affairs, Border Police, State Security Service, National Environment Agency, State Military Scientific-Technical Center “Delta” and Georgian Paragliding Federation (GPF) which is a non-profit organization in Georgia, participated in the work of the meeting.
During the meeting, the parties assessed the current situation of Georgia’s airspace usage, its acquisition and distribution and discussed future measures. The focus was on flight safety, refining relevant legislation, and allocation of airspace for activities such as launching vertical atmospheric zones in Georgia, manufacturing anti-hail operations, paragliding sports flights, etc.
“Georgian airspace load has been significantly increased given the increased civilian transportation-transportation.” In addition, the increased use of airspace for other purposes and objectives, requires optimal airspace planning, coordination among agencies, and detailed and comprehensive risk assessments. The Civil-Military Standing Committee actively implements its activities in this direction, and work continues to reflect international requirements in Georgian airspace structure and design. ” – Said Givi Davitashvili, Head of Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia.
