Georgia: The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia on March 11, 2025, Tuesday. The main aim of signing this MoC was to deepen cooperation between both parties.
The glimpses of this signing ceremony was shared by the Georgian Competetion and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) on its official Facebook page. GCCA also shared the details of the event along with the photographs.
According to the details provided by the agency, it should be noted that the document was signed by Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth Tamar Makharashvili and Chairman of GCCA Irakli Lekvinadze.
Objectives of signing MoC:
- to deepen cooperation between both parties,
- to implement joint events and projects
Also, to create awareness of competition and consumer protection policy among students, informational meetings were conducted in public schools.
It is noteworthy that, according to Tamar Makharashvili, consumer rights protection is one of the fundamental aspects of modern society and an integral part of human rights. According to the Deputy Minister, adolescents, as active members of society, should know their rights, capabilities and responsibilities from an early age. Therefore, the Ministry provides pupils, from primary level, an opportunity to raise awareness in this area.
“Thank you to the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth for their cooperation and support of the project,” Irakli Lekvinadze said while signing the memorandum.
It should also be noted that this year and last year, meetings with up to 10 public school pupils have already been held. In 2025, informational-educational meetings will be held in more than 50 public schools, both in Tbilisi and in the region. Special attention will be placed on inclusive groups, such as ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities.
It is worth noting that the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was signed within the framework of International Consumer Protection Week, which is being held for the third time. The event aims to improve consumer rights protection mechanisms in Georgia.
