Georgia: The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) positively assesses the competitive environment in the nut market and has completed monitoring it.
Within the monitoring framework, it was found that, in 2020-2023, the total share of the five major exporting economic agents on the export market ranged from 37% to 47%. The highest amount of georgian nuts exports from Georgia was carried out in Italy (32%), followed by Germany (20%), Armenia (7%), and Russia (4%).
From Georgia in 2020 – 289,8 million. Sixteen thousand six hundred seventy-five tons of GEL value in 2021 – 365.7 million. Twenty-three thousand four hundred sixty-five tons of GEL value in 2022 – 277.1 million. Twenty-one thousand eight hundred forty-eight tons of GEL value, and in 2023 – 219.2 million GEL value 16,169 tons of nuts were exported. The number of exporting economic looters during this period ranged between 65-80 units.
According to GCCA, the market is low-concentrated. The total shares of 5 major companies did not exceed 47% during the study period. There is no dominant economic agent fixed on the market, and there is no place for one of the conditions necessary for the existence of group dominance in the form of market shares. Given the number of companies active in the market, the share index of large companies, and the concentration index, the market is competitive.
According to the report, two types of nuts are exported from Georgia—crumbled and crumbled. In 2020-2023, the country mainly exported cracked nuts. The share of the five largest exporting companies in the overall export of dirt is low, at 31-39%.
In the case of cracked nuts, the market is highly concentrated and faces a dominant economic agent; however, in the case of further study, it has been found that such a market structure is due to several objective circumstances. Therefore, this degree of concentration has no negative impact on a competitive environment.
