Akhalkalaki, Georgia: The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) hosted an information-working meeting with ethnic minorities in Akhalkalaki, on March 12, 2025, Wednesday, in order to improve consumer rights protection mechanisms in Georgia.
It is worth noting that the meeting was attended by SEMEC, the State Supervisory Service, the National Bank, the Communications Commission, and the National Food Agency (NFA) along with the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency.
The glimpses of the working meeting were shared by the Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) on its Official Facebook page along with a small note about the meeting.
According to the information shared by GCCA, it should be noted that the main aim of this informational meeting with ethnic minorities was to strengthen consumer rights protection mechanisms in Georgia.
It should also be noted that the event, which was organized by GCCA, was opened by the First Deputy of the State Commissioner in the Samtskhe-Javakheti area, David Vardiashvili. The Minister addressed the participants of the meeting with a welcome speech.
Together with David Vardiashvili, other important ministers who attended the opening of the meeting were:
- the Mayor of Akhalkalaki Municipality, Melkon Makariani,
- the Chairman of the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency, Irakli Lekvinadze
- the Head of the State Insurance Supervision Service, David Onofrishvili The Chairman of SEMEC, David Narmania.
During the III International Consumer Protection Week, one of the main focuses is to actively engage persons with disabilities and ethnic minorities, to ensure equal access to information.
Notably, during the panel discussion, representatives from six regulatory bodies responsible for consumer rights protection presented key achievements, challenges, and enforcement mechanisms. The session was conducted in a Q&A format, providing participants with detailed guidelines on how to protect their rights, which authorities to contact in case of violations, and the available legal remedies.Â
It is noteworthy that Consumer Protection Week will continue with further informational and working meetings in Zugdidi on March 14 and Batumi on March 15.
