GCCA received 202 applications and 675 calls for consumer rights protection in two months of 2025

In January-February 2025, the Georgian Competition and Consumer  Agency (GCCA) registered 202 applications related to consumer rights protection, alongside 675 incoming calls. Notably, the number of complaints increased by 60% compared to the same period in the previous year.

Georgia: In January-February 2025, the Georgian Competition and Consumer  Agency (GCCA) registered 202 applications related to consumer rights protection, alongside 675 incoming calls. Notably, the number of complaints increased by 60% compared to the same period in the previous year.

The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) shared the details about these through its social media handles which is its official Facebook page on March 5, 2025, Wednesday.

According to the details shared by GCCA, it should be noted that during the accounting period, by the decision of GCCA, 14 violations of consumer group rights were confirmed on 35 cases.

It should be noted that 8 traders were fined on 17 cases for non-fulfillment of obligations imposed by GCCA, in total – 5400 Gel.

For consumer protection, 33 agreements were signed in 37 cases, where traders committed to modifying their internal business policies and restoring the rights of affected consumers who suffered due to unfair business practices. 

In 2025, 70% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 30% to the case of purchasing the item on the spot. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 79%,  followed by Imereti with 5%, Adjara with 4%, Kakheti with 4%, and other regions.

The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) reported that based on two months of data and customer applications to the agency, there were 78, 46, 46, 46 requests for repairing or returning defective items, 44 requests for delivery of goods within a specified period, and 15 for other matters.

Additionally, it is important to highlight that statistical data shows the following distributions: the wholesale and retail sectors accounted for 73%, transport and warehousing for 15%, art, entertainment, and leisure for 2%, and other activities for 10%.
