Georgia: The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) shares the details about last year’s performance. The agency states that it has completed 2 case surveys, and 2 market monitoring and also agreed on 18 concentrations in the previous year which is 2024.
GCCA shared the details on its official Facebook page on January 16, 2025. According to the information shared by the agency, GCCA completed 2 surveys in 2024.
About the 2 surveys
The first case was about the Online service delivery in hotels and other lodging facilities, while the second case was about the baking soda manufacturing and realization.
In the first case: two suggestions were offered, but the assumed reality of the limiting competition agreement which would be stated in the presumed agreement, was not established.
In the second case: the offender was punished when it was confirmed that there had been an unfriendly competition violation.
The survey has 4 cases:
- the study of the Rustavi auto market,
- the study of the pharmaceutical market,
- the study of the fish trade in Batumi,
- the study of the e-commerce market.
The agency also noted about the decision on non-admissibility, which was made on 11 complaints in 2024. According to the agency’s research, the number of fines imposed by GCCA, in 2024 total amounted to 43, 635.08 GEL. As a result of the completed survey, 14 635.08 GEL, and according to intermediate and recurring fines – 29 000 GEL.
GCCA noted, “In 2024 the agency also published the impact assessment document “Ex-post monitoring of government procurement market for supervisory services on construction work”, the purpose of which was to evaluate the results caused by the decisions taken by the agency, to monitor the performance of the recommendations made within the scope of the survey.”
According to the information, 22 messages on the result of concentrations have been studied in GCCA since 2024. 18 concentrations were agreed upon, and 4 manufacturing is already underway.
GCCA also announced that the two-nut and blueberry market monitoring was finished in 2024 and in both cases, the GCCA’s assessment indicated that the market was competitive.
In terms of management, the motor fuel, tobacco, and retail trade and distribution (FMCG) markets are being observed daily.
