GD release a list of 20 candidates for October elections

The ruling party of Georgia, GD (Georgian Dream)  has released a list of twenty candidates. They will contest the parliament election scheduled for October 26 later this year.

Tbilisi: The ruling party of Georgia, GD (Georgian Dream)  has released a list of twenty candidates. They will contest the parliament election scheduled for October 26 later this year.

The party list includes the names of the party’s billionaire founder, many incumbent MPs, officials, sportspersons  and some fresh faces. The list has Bidzina Ivanishvili’s name on top. He is the founder and current honorary chairman of Georgia’s ruling party GD.

He is followed by current Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze and chairman of Georgian Dream Irakli Garibashvili. The other names next in the list include Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and GD Majority Leader Mamuka Mdinaradze. The first list is dominated by male candidates  as it has only five female candidates.

The list contains only Sevan members who were also part of the last election list. Meanwhile  Prime Minster  after the release of the list said “ Every citizen of Georgia needs to keep in mind that this election is not normal election. This will decide the future of the country. The people will decide whom they want to rule. Those who lead the country to development or those who have dragged it down.”

The list includes the names of Bidzina Ivanishvili who is  founder of Georgian Dream, then comes the name of Irakli Kobakhidze, current Prime Miniter and former Prime Minisrer Irakli Garibashvilib.

  • Giorgi Gabunia, lawyer
  • Nikoloz Samkharadze, head of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee
  • Eka Chichinadze, Vice President of the International Association of Women Artists
  • Lika Shartava, granddaughter of national hero Zhiuli Shartava
  • Geno Petriashvili, Olympic champion
  • Sozar Subari, MP, member of the People’s Power faction
  • Mariam Kvrivishvili, former MP                                                                                 The Prime Minister expressed hopes that the country will elect Georgian Dream for another term. He criticizes the opposition parties for anti-national narratives.
