The 53rd General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees ended in Bucharest, Romania. SOK President Thomas Bach and EOK President Spiro Capralos addressed the delegates.
Agenda issues were discussed at the General Assembly, which included presentations on upcoming major sporting events, information about the upcoming Paris Olympic Games, Winter Olympic Games, 4th European Games, and upcoming Winter and Summer Festivals, including the preparation for the 2025 European Winter Youth Olympic Festival. They also heard reports of the work of EOC commissions.
Within the framework of the General Assembly, the Gala Award of the European Olympic Committees for 2024 was held. It is noteworthy that this year, for the first time, the former president of EOC, Janesh Kochiancic, the best female and male athletes of the European Games, was held.
The best male athlete of the Third European Games 2023 was named, and the Special Award named after Janesh Kochiancic was given to Olympic Champion, European Champion, and Third European Games Team Champion judoist Lasha Bekauri, winner of many international tournaments.
This award was given to the Olympic champion by Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, and Spiro Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committee. The award of the best sportsman woman goes to the Italian bullet shooter Jessica Rossi.
Young athletes were also awarded at the General Assembly.
Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 2025 European Winter Youth Olympic Festival, Zurab Dorkhiashvili, presented detailed information about the work done by the Organizing Committee and plans of the Festival Organizing Committee, presented to the General Assembly. This presentation earned great appreciation among the delegates. Bakuriani will host the main competitions of the Winter Olympic Festival. Individual species will be hosted in Tbilisi and Batumi.
On the occasion of the upcoming anniversary date, Lithuanian Olympic Committee President Daina Gudzivenichute awarded SEOC President Larry Khabelov the Special Award—Olympic Star for his special contribution to the Olympic movement.
The General Assembly was attended from Georgia by SEOC President Leri Khabelov, First Vice President Elguja Berishvili, General Secretary Emzar Zenaishvili, SEOC Vice President, Chairman of the Bakuriani 2025 Organizing Committee Mamuka Khabareli, Head of International Relations Service Rusudan Aptsiauri and other leaders of “Bakuriani 2025”.
