Georgia reported 165,626 overseas travellers in February

The Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA) announced on Friday, March 11, that a total of 165,626 international travellers visited Georgia in February 2022, marking a 35.3 per cent recovery from the pre-pandemic 2019 figures and an increase of 297 per cent compared to 2021.

The Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA) announced on Friday, March 11, that a total of 165,626 international travellers visited Georgia in February 2022, marking a 35.3 per cent recovery from the pre-pandemic 2019 figures and an increase of 297 per cent compared to 2021.

The GNTA also said that international travel revenue in Georgia reached $105,218,484 million during the reporting period, with 62.2 per cent of revenue recovered since the economic downturn resulting from pandemic-related restrictions. In comparison to the same period last year, the new trends increased by $91,568,460 (670.8 per cent).

Moreover, in all, 137,148 international tourists visited Georgia during the reporting period, a 55.4 per cent recovery compared to 2019 and an increase of 282 per cent compared to 2021. 

In February 2022, in total, 151,870 foreign visits were made to Georgia. The highest number of foreign visits were reported from the following countries:

  • Russia – 20,876 visits
  • Turkey – 29,606 visits 
  • Georgia (non-resident) – 15,856 visits
  • Israel – 8,779 visits
  • Armenia – 17,366 visits
  • Kazakhstan – 4,121 visits
  • Ukraine – 8,601 visits
  • Azerbaijan – 7,562 visits
  • Belarus – 3,446 visits
  • Iran – 3,272 visits

However, in 2021, overall 1,881,271 foreign travellers visited the country, which was an increase of about 7.7 per cent as compared to 2020, while international tourist revenue in Georgia reached $1,244,941,717 billion.

Furthermore, the tourism sector always plays an essential role for any government as it bolsters the economic growth in the country. Tourism increases economic revenue, creates more employment, improves a country’s infrastructure, and fosters cultural exchange between Foreigners and locals.

Georgia has many places of attraction such as Old Town (Altstadt), Tbilisi, Batumi Botanical Gardens, Kutaisi market, Lake Rica, Aerial Tramway in Tbilisi, Batumi Dolphinarium.
