Georgia: 32 new sedan-type hybrid vehicles have been added to the Adjara police units in order to improve the Ministry of Internal Affairs‘ police infrastructure. Twenty-five of them are for patrol officers. Only hybrid patrol police vehicles will operate in Batumi and Kobuleti as a result of the vehicle fleet renewal. Criminal police forces were also given the new hybrid-powered seven cars.

Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Shalva Bedoidze, Director of the Patrol Police Department Vazha Siradze, and chiefs of other Ministry divisions were among those who attended the event.

Vakhtang Gomelauri congratulated the staff on handing over the new cars, following which the Minister of Internal Affairs personally got instructed on the technical data and capabilities of the cars in the streets of Batumi in real practical conditions.

During the meeting with the Adjara Police Department’s employees, Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri stated that the goal of strengthening the Ministry’s police infrastructure is to increase the efficiency of police work and provide better, more comfortable working conditions for police officers.

According to him, the new police transport is economical and reduces administrative costs, in particular, fuel and service costs; at the same time, the new vehicles have minimal emissions and are environmentally friendly transport.

The new police vehicles were specially selected for the Adjara region, taking into account the needs and conditions of the tourist zone. Hybrid vehicles in the resort cities of Adjara: will facilitate more effective policing in Batumi and Kobuleti. The Black Sea cities of Adjara – Batumi and Kobuleti will be the first settlements in Georgia, where ecologically safe and modern police transport will completely replace the fuel-only vehicles of the patrol police.

It should be noted that in the current fleet renewal project – none of the new vehicles are intended for the heads of the structural unit. The Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly updates its vehicle fleet. Last year, the fleet of police units was renewed with up to 700 vehicles. After Adjara, new, hybrid-powered vehicles are planned to be handed over to Rustavi police officers.
