Georgia: The Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, from September 1 to September 30, 2025, identified 471 facts of inconsistency with the established norm for the emission of motor vehicles.
The Environmental Supervision Department of Georgia shared the details through its official Facebook Page on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. The Department also shared some photographs along with the details.
One of the primary areas of the department’s activities is to improve air quality and reduce pollution, including that from the transportation sector. Department inspectors have been carrying out exhaust control of vehicles on roads in four major cities of the country for 2 years now.
As a result, in the month of September, 277 violations were reported in Tbilisi, 99 in Batumi, 76 in Kutaisi, and 19 in Rustavi. Out of 471 facts, 424 were committed by individuals, and in 47 cases, employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision fined legal entities.
It should be noted that 256 violations were committed by drivers/owners of light cars, 200 by minibuses, and 15 were committed by trucks. Regarding annual statistics, 3798 violations have been revealed in 9 months of 2025.
In order to improve the atmospheric air quality, alongside controlling the visible emissions of vehicles, the department implements a number of measures – regularly monitoring the fuel quality at motor stations to minimize the consumption of non-conditional fuel, which in turn significantly reduces the vehical emission of harmful substances.
In addition, in order to prevent pollution from the industrial sector, the process of implementation of a continuous self-monitoring system for air pollution is actively underway; 36 of the largest enterprises have already installed the system. All of the measures listed contribute to minimizing air pollution as a complex.
