Tbilisi: The Agriculture Ministry, Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili attended the discussion of Georgia’s bill on “Biodiversity. “We must manage and pass a law that, on the one hand, will protect the biodiversity of our country, on the other hand, will not hinder the economic development of the country,” said Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili.
‘On Biodiversity’ Georgia’s Law was developed within the framework of the Environment and Agriculture Ministry and the Swedish Agency for International Development (Sida) project “Save Nature – Georgia 2021-2024”.
As Nino Tandilashvili noted, the draft law fully reflects the requirements and important standards in compliance with the Eurodirectives provided by the association agreement.
“The project, which aims to stop biodiversity loss and improve air quality control, aims to strengthen capacities of the Ministry and various agencies. “It is very important that Georgia adopts a law that will meet international commitments and respond to the challenges posed by climate and global change,” said Khatuna Zaldastanishvili, head of the Swedish Embassy’s environmental program in Georgia.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Mzia Giorgobiani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Nino Enukidze, Members of Parliament of Georgia Giorgi Tsagareishvili, Salome Kurasbediani, Chairman of the Georgian Union of Nature Researchers “Orkisi” Mariam Kimeridze and relevant state agencies Participants of the meeting expressed their views and recommendations regarding the bill, which will be considered in the final document.
It is noteworthy that the project “Save Nature-Georgia”, funded by the Swedish Agency for International Development (SIDA), aims to develop institutional capacities of the National Environment Agency, the Wildlife Agency and the Agency of Protected Areas, improve management efficiency and sustainable protection, restoration and management of Georgian natural resources With the promotion of S.A.P. The total budget of the project is 56,500,000 Swedish krona. The duration of the project is 3 years.
