Georgia: Alexander Darakhvelidz attends EU supported road safety project

Georgia: The opening ceremony of the EU-funded project “Supporting the Establishment of a Unified Road Safety Database and Further Improving Road Safety Management in Georgia” was attended by Alexander Darakhvelidze, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Alexander Darakhvelidze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development – Guram Guramishvili, Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy of Poland – Gregorz Puda, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia – Andrius Kalindra, Ambassador of Poland to Georgia – Mariusch Mashtov The Director-General of the Center – Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Director-General of the Directorate-General for European Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Irakli Kurashvili and the Representative of the EU Delegation to Georgia – Alexander Daras addressed the event and talked about the project prospects.

The participants of the meeting discussed the activities to be implemented within the project by the Internal Affairs Ministry of Georgia and other partner agencies.

With the aim to strengthen traffic safety management in Georgia, improve the road accident registration system, create a broad road safety database and strengthen the capacity of agencies in the field of data analysis, the Georgian government is working hard as per the sources.

Alexander Darakhvelidze thanked the EU delegation for supporting the capacity building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the Deputy Minister, the aim of the strategy is to reduce the number of deaths and serious cases caused by traffic accidents.

The EU-supported project provides an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation between Georgia, Poland and Lithuania and reiterates Georgia’s choice to develop in line with European values.
