Georgia: The coordination within the framework of cooperation with the United Nations International Maritime Organization, as well as issues related to the security and stability of the Black Sea, were discussed in London by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Abdulkadir Uraloglu.
They also reviewed the development of the Saborne passage between the two countries and other important topics. Notably, the Deputy Ministers Tamar Ioseliani and Durmush Unuwari were also present there.
At the bilateral meeting, which was held within the Assembly of the United Nations International Maritime Organization, the sides emphasized many aspects of a successful economic partnership between Georgia and Turkey, including the maritime sector, where cooperation is very active and has even greater potential for development.
Ministers talked about the possibilities of new Saborne shipping routes and joint research in this direction, which will contribute to deepening tourism and, in general, economic links.
Participants of the meeting also discussed issues related to energy transition and maritime digitization, marine education and training, hydrography cooperation, shipbuilding experience sharing, and other issues, which will provide further opportunities for the maritime sectors of the two countries to deepen cooperation and strengthen regional governance.
Mariam Kvrivishvili is in London with the delegation, where she will participate in the 34th session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization.
At the event, which is attended by representatives of more than 150 countries around the world, Mariam Kvrivishvili will give a report and talk about trends in the Georgian maritime sector, as well as ongoing and planned reforms.
Within the framework of the visit, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development will meet with the Secretary General of IMO Arsenio Dominge, and bilateral meetings of Mariam Kvrivishvili are also planned with colleague ministers from several countries participating in the Assembly.
The meeting between Mariam Kvrivishvili and Abdulkadir Uraloglu was attended by Natia Miminoshvili, Deputy Director of the Maritime Transport Agency and Temporary Trustee of Georgia in the United Kingdom of Northern Ireland, and Giorgi Archemashvili, IMO Permanent Representative of Georgia.
