The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, during her working visit. She discussed with him the priority directions for cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.

The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook page on July 18, 2025, Friday. The Ministry also shared a small note about the discussions held at the meeting, along with its glimpses.

According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, the meeting was very fruitful, discussing possibilities of deepening friendly and partnership relations between the two countries.

At the meeting of the ministers of the two countries, it was noted that energy is one of the main directions of economic cooperation between Georgia and Turkey.

Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized Georgia’s fruitful cooperation with Turkish investors in the field of green energy – only in the past 5 years, investments made by Turkish companies in Georgia’s energy sector exceeded US$150 million. As the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted, Georgia and Turkey have even greater potential to cooperate in this direction.

“We put out new plans on how to develop the power lines on the common plan, scheduled to increase the supply of electricity between the two countries.” “Of course, this will strengthen the trade opportunities between our countries, and Georgia will improve both transit and export rates,” said the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.

Currently, Georgia and Turkey are energetically connected by the 400-kilovolt transmission line “Meskheti”, through which the energy systems of the two countries are exported and imported.

Vakhtang Tsintsadze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Vano Zardiashvili, General Director of “Georgian State Electricity System”, and representatives of Turkish energy companies participated in the meeting with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
