The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with Uzbek Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov during her official visit to Uzbekistan. The meeting was also attended by Uzbekistan’s agriculture, information technology, and other agencies.
The parties discussed the priority directions of bilateral trade-economic cooperation. The attention was focused on bilateral trade, which is characterized by growth dynamics – in 2024, trade turnover increased by 40 percent and exports by 27 percent, compared to 2025, in January – May, trade turnover between the two countries rose by 20 percent and exports by 46 percent. As noted at the meeting, despite the growing dynamics of trade turnover, the potential is great.
At the meeting, it was noted that Georgia is interested in cooperating more with the Uzbek side, and the holding of trade missions and business forums between the two countries was positively assessed. He emphasized the deepening of cooperation in terms of transporting Uzbek cargo in the Georgian corridor.
While talking about the efforts of the Government of Georgia towards the development of the middle corridor, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development focused on the transport and logistics infrastructure implemented by the country, including the names of Anaklia Deepwater Port, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway, the modernization of Georgian Railway, the new Tbilisi Airport, and others. The Uzbek side expressed interest in participating in the development process of the Anaklia maritime port.
During the meeting, there was also a discussion about the development of the energy corridor. Mariam Kvrivishvili informed her Uzbek colleague about the progress of the Black Sea submarine cable project, in her turn, noting that Uzbekistan is interested in bringing its green energy resources to the EU market, for which it will consider cooperation with other countries participating in the corridor, including Georgia.
The field of innovations and technologies was another priority, on which the ministers of Georgia and Uzbekistan discussed. It was noted that Uzbek innovation companies operate in Georgia. The Georgian experience related to the development of an innovative ecosystem and the entry of international technological companies in the country was interesting for Uzbekistan.
At the meeting, the parties also discussed the priority directions for cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, civil aviation, and tourism. It has been noted that in recent years, three airlines between Georgia and Uzbekistan have been operating direct flights, which has positively affected the growth of visitors from Uzbekistan to Georgia. In 2024, this index increased by 23.4 percent, and in the first half of 2025, by 14,5 percent. It was said that the increase in the frequency of direct flights between Georgia and Uzbekistan will further contribute to deepening cooperation in the tourism sector.
The meeting was attended by Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze, Guram Guramishvili, and Irakli Nadareishvili at the Uzbek Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade.
