As a result of several actions conducted by the State Security Service (SSS)Â in different regions of Georgia in the last day and a half, 29 persons were arrested and charged in 13 different criminal cases.
As a result of processing operational information, in an attempt to purchase nuclear and radioactive substances, two foreign citizens were arrested in Kutaisi, who planned to purchase Uranium and radioactive substance Cesium 137 for three million US dollars and illegally transport it to another country.
Foreign nationals have been coming to Georgia permanently in recent weeks to implement the criminal plan and have been actively engaged in creating conditions for the purchase/transportation of nuclear materials and radioactive substances.
It is worth noting that the above-mentioned substances are usually used for various criminal activities, including terrorist purposes. The investigation is underway under the first part of Article 19-230 of the Criminal Code.
As a result of several anti-corruption measures held in the parallel regime:
12 people have been charged with charges of illegal logging, negligence of work, and abuse of power.
Among them are former employees of the National Forest Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Imereti Forest Service. Also, Martville Forestry District, two persons living in the same municipality, and similar cases are connected to Van Municipality, charged with fraudulent business, fabrication of fake official documents, and unlawful cutting of succulent plants.
Also, the employees of the anti-corruption agency arrested two persons in Batumi and Lagodekhi municipality on charges of taking bribes. The Batumi case concerns one of the head of the services of “Cleaning” LLC taking bribe with trucks on the balance of the LLC in exchange of construction waste, and in the case of Lagodekhi, the representative of the mayor in the village Kabali, in exchange for bribe, the citizen avoided the punishment prescribed by the court – a good labor for the community.
Five people have been charged in connection with the illegal increase of the construction coefficient and illegal construction of the so-called K2 coefficients.
6 persons were held responsible for the illegal registration of state-owned lands in private property, and two citizens were charged with legal responsibility for artificially adjusting tender conditions, fraudulently embezzling large amounts of state-owned funds, and abuse of power.
Despite the unprecedented scale in the fight against corruption in recent months, the so-called “middle circle corruption” remains a serious challenge, which, naturally, they are not going to tackle. That’s why:
1. They urge all citizens who have anything to do with similar issues to cooperate with the investigative authorities and provide us with appropriate information.
2. People who still wish to abuse their situation for material advantage are warned that any violation of the law will be disclosed and will be subject to appropriate strict legal action.
Notably, today’s public security service resource is completely different. At the expense of internal reforms, personnel changes, and material-technical resources improvements in recent months, the capacity of the organization has particularly strengthened.
