Georgia: The citizens of Georgia celebrated June 23 as International Olympic Day, which has been celebrated since 1948, the date of the International Olympic Committee’s founding.
Millions of citizens from more than 200 countries participated in the mass events sponsored by Sok and its President, Thomas Bach.
Since 1994, Olympic events dedicated to this day have been traditionally held in Georgia. This year, a mass Olympic run was held in Gori municipality with the support of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia within the framework of the “Internal Georgian Sports Games.”
The Shida Kartli Sports Games have been held since 2022. They aim to promote sports in the region, promote a healthy lifestyle, support sports masses, and actively engage the population (especially young people) in sporting events.
More than 5000 people have already participated in the games. This year, in the “Inside Georgian Sports Games” program, endurance, basketball, football, and Georgian wrestling competitions are held.
In the Mass Olympic Run, the winners of the women’s and men’s categories were announced, and the respective prizes from the National Olympic Committee of Georgia were awarded. All the participants received a special T-shirt and a certificate of participation signed by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bakhi, and Leri Khabelov, the President of the National Olympic Committee.
On behalf of the municipalities of Shida Kartli (Gori, Kareli, Khashuri, Kaspi), the first three winners, among men and women, were awarded cash awards.
Winners of the women’s category:
- 1 place – Irina Karchava (1500 GEL)
- 2nd place – Nino Basiashvili (1000 GEL)
- 3rd place – Liliana Janashia (500 GEL)
Winners of the boys category:
- One place – David Kharazishvili (1500 GEL)
- 2nd place – Temur Baikeev (1000 GEL)
- 3rd place – Gigla Zilberstein (500 GEL)
Olympic champion Vakhtang Blagidze was awarded a particular diploma and a cash prize from the National Olympic Committee of Georgia on the 70th anniversary of his birth. The mentioned award was given to the Olympic champion by the President of SEOK, Leri Khabelov.
Olympic champion-prize-winners Seok, Bakuriani-2025, heads of Shida Kartli municipalities, employees and residents, and representatives of the French Embassy in Georgia participated in the Olympic run.
The event organizers were the National Olympic Committee of Georgia, the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia, the Administration of State Trustee of Inner Georgia, the Municipalities of Gori, Kareli, Khashuri, and Kaspi, the Regional Organization of Inner Georgia of SEOK, and the General Sponsor of Bank of Georgia.
