Georgia: A ceremonial ceremony was held at the Senaki Military Base to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the Western Battalion of the Georgian Defense Forces.
The Georgian Defense Minister, Irakli Chikovani, and the Commander of the Defense Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, congratulated the personnel on the brigade.
Irakli Chikovani particularly highlighted the pivotal role of the 2nd Infantry Brigade in safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country and fostering global peace. He expressed his profound gratitude to the military personnel for their invaluable contribution to the brigade’s growth.
On July 19, 2024, a solemn flag-handing-over ceremony of the 2nd Infantry Brigade took place in Senaki. The new Commander of the brigade, Colonel Irakli Kalandadze, was formally entrusted with the flag by the former Commander, Colonel Irakly Chitanava, in a dignified and respectful manner.
Before starting the official event, the Minister of Defense of Georgia, the Commander of the Defense Forces, the Western Sardal of the Defense Force, the General of the Brigade Koba Grigolia, and the Commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, Colonel Irakli Kalandadze decorated the memorial of the heroes who died in the line of duty of the country’s territorial integrity and duty and honored their memory.
Military personnel were awarded extraordinary medals and state weapons at the anniversary event. At the end of the event, the guests checked the equipment and weapons of the military brigade.
Georgian Defense Forces
The Defence Forces of Georgia, or Georgian Defence Forces (GDF), are the combined military forces of Georgia tasked with defending the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. They consist of the Land Force, Air Force, National Guard, and Special Operations Forces. The Defence Forces are under the overall leadership of the Minister of Defence of Georgia and are directly headed by the Chief of Defence Forces.
