Georgia: Conference held to celebrate 70th anniversary of CERN

The National Academy of Sciences of Georgia organised a successful conference on the 70th anniversary of CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).

The National Academy of Sciences of Georgia organised a successful conference on the 70th anniversary of CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). A large number of attendees from many parts of the country and Europe attended this conference as well.

Some prominent figures who were present on this occasion included the Minister of Education, Science and Youth Aleksandre Tsuladze, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, Academician Roin Metreveli.

President of the Council of the European Organization for Nuclear Research Kostas Fontas, Rector of the Technical University of Georgia Davit Gurgenidze and Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Jaba.

It is worth noting that the conference participants summarised the results of the joint projects, discussed the steps needed to strengthen the existing partnership and discussed the perspectives of future cooperation.

On this occasion Aleksandre Tsuladze addressed the audience. He also congratulated the delegation of the European Organization for Nuclear Research on its 70th anniversary and drew attention to the importance of long-term cooperation with CERN in terms of the development of the field of science in Georgia.

He said, “It is a matter of pride that as a result of many years of fruitful partnership with the European Organization for Nuclear Research, Georgia is contributing to the success of the most extensive global scientific research at CERN.”

He further added, “I hope that this cooperation will be further strengthened and we will make positive progress on the way to Georgia’s associate membership in CERN, which will give Georgian scientists, students, school teachers and pupils even more opportunities to deepen their knowledge and conduct international-level research. We will spare no effort in supporting the scientific community of Georgia and promoting young researchers.”

The President of the Council of the European Organization for Nuclear Research also addressed the event participants. He promised the minister his support and expressed his readiness to strengthen the partnership between CERN and Georgia.

It’s important to note that the collaboration between Georgia and the European Organization for Nuclear Research has endured for over 30 years. During this time many Georgian scientists have continued their research at CERN.  

The active participation of scientists from the Technical University of Georgia and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in the organization’s activities is particularly noteworthy, underscoring the stability and continuity of this fruitful partnership.
