Georgia: As per the decision taken by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, the construction of a new public school for 120 students is underway in Abastumani.Â
The new school building of modern standards will be fully equipped with all relevant educational resources and modern infrastructure.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli personally got instructed on the progress of construction works in Abastumani.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Today I visited the construction process of the new public school in Abastumani, which is going on intensively. We started the construction process this year, and already in Gais, Abastumani, we will have a new public school in accordance with modern standards, where children will have all the conditions to receive a quality education. Similar projects, construction of new schools, rehabilitation of existing ones are taking place all over the country, which is clear proof that taking care of the education of young people is a strategic priority for our team.”
According to the project, the schoolyard will be improved, and heating, sewage, and water supply systems will be installed. The school will also have a modern sports hall, library, science and computer laboratory, and administrative and economic part.
The building will be fully adapted for students with special needs – a ramp, an elevator, and adapted bathrooms will be provided. The central heating and fire alarm systems will function, and recreation space will be arranged in the yard.
Along with the Minister of Education and Science in Abastumani, the Director of the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency Levan Sukhitashvili, State Trustee in the Samtskhe-Javakheti Region Besik Amiranashvili and other representatives of the local government got acquainted with the progress of the works.
The design and construction works of the new school will begin in the spring of 2022 and will be completed in November 2023. The construction is being carried out by “Rebuild” LLC on the order of the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency. The cost of the project exceeds 2,250,400 GEL.
The primary school in Abastumani has been operating since 1973. The school was located in the building of a residential house allocated by the local self-government.
The general educational institution changed the building in 1999. Since 2004, the school has become a basic level, and since 2006, it has received the status of a secondary school.
The current building of Abastumani Public School is privately owned. Therefore, from 2023, Abastumani will have a new public school of modern standards.
