The Georgian Ministry of Defence gets new head. The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze introduced the new defence minister to the ministry’s employees.
On this occasion former Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze met the new Minister in the Ministry of Defense office who also congratulated him on his appointment and wished him success.
There was an important meeting held at the Ministry of Defense which was also attended by the Chief of the Defense Forces Major General Giorgi Matiashvili his deputies and heads of the departments of the General Staff and heads of the structural units of the Civil Office.
Speaking on the occasion the Prime Minister thanked the representatives of the Defense Forces for their worthy service dedication to the country and support to each soldier. Irakli Kobakhidze further underlined the rich political and professional experience of the new minister and expressed hope that he will continue to successfully implement the plans and reforms set by the authorities in cooperation with the Defense Forces.
He also thanked former minister Juansher Burchuladze for his service and wished him success. He said that his experience would also make the defence ministry more capable in the near future.
On the other hand new Minister of Defense Irakli Chikovan showed respect and support to the Georgian Army. According to him the ministry team will continue to focus on strengthening the strategic objectives of the Defense Agency and further strengthening the defence forces.
It is to be specifically mentioned that Irakli Chikovani was appointed as the Minister of Defense in the new government as the former president resigned last week. He was the 10th invitation member of parliament from Zugdidi Majority Constituency in 2020-2023 and also served as Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Moreover in 2012-2016 he was a member of the 8th Invitation Parliament of Georgia. Irakli Chikovani has graduated from Ivane Javakhishvili’s Faculty of International Law and International Relations. He has started his career in public service in the Ministry of Defense and has worked in the department for years. He has graduated from NATO Defense College and has experience in the field of defence as well.
