Georgia: The program for the management of hyperpopulation of pets has been successfully running for a year and represents one of the most humane models, based on international best practices.
According to the Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Georgia, during this time, the program has already brought significant results, both in the field of animal welfare and population safety, which is particularly important for the country and society.
Further, the Minister also noted that the main goal of the program is to protect the balance – on the one hand, to protect and improve the condition of animals with a humane approach, and on the other hand, to provide a safe environment for humans and their health.
David Songhulashvili noted, “Unfortunately, recent events have revealed that certain statements and campaigns against the program are not based on facts. These processes are provoked by specific political groups that seek to use society’s emotional sentiments for their own political purposes. Such actions significantly hinder the effective implementation of the program and undermine both the public interest and animal protection.”
The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia shared details regarding this model on its official Facebook page on April 2, 2026, Thursday.
According to the details provided by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, it should be noted that they emphasized that no accusation, threat, or slander directed against people who perform their duties decently and professionally will go unaddressed.
All such slander will be thoroughly investigated, and each person involved in deliberate disinformation and pressure will be held accountable under the law.
Moreover, they continue to implement the program by protecting the interests of society, safety, and humane values. As this program represents one of the Humane Models, it is worth noting that this model is supposed to be sustainable and ethical, as it reduces population size without using any cruel methods
This model also helps in improving the quality of life for the animals and enhances community safety.
