Georgia: Deputy Agriculture Minister Solomon Pavliashvili attends discussion of bill “On Chemicals and Mixtures”

Tbilisi: The Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili attended the discussion regarding the working version of the draft law “On Chemicals and mixtures”.

The event was held within the framework of the project “Strengthening the proper management of chemicals” supported by the Czech Development Agency, for representatives of state agencies and private sector involved in the field of chemical substances management. The discussion of the draft law was led by Czech experts on chemical substances management.

The Deputy Minister noted in his speech, the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, with financial support of the Czech Development Agency (CzDA), together with the companies DEKONTA and MEDYSTIL are implementing the “chemical substances” Addo Management Empowerment Project, which aims to align the chemical management system with the European model, drafting legislation and strengthening capacity at the national level.

“International experience shows that effective management of chemicals is a difficult, laborious and long-term process that requires the creation of a system of management that will be in line with the most developed countries in the world.”

“Sharing of experience and knowledge of the Czech Republic will play an important role in promoting an effective chemical management system in the country. I hope that, with a joint effort, we can do more in terms of chemical control and make significant progress in achieving environmental and sustainable development goals,” said Solomon Pavliashvili.

 The new Code of Chemicals and Mixtures brings into the legislative space the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction (REACH) of chemicals and mixtures and classification, labeling and packaging of chemicals and mounds.

The seminar was attended by up to 30 representatives and business ombudsmen of the government of Georgia, relevant state agencies, NGOs, private sector involved in the field of chemical substances management.
