Georgia: The Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, in the framework of the fight against illegal forest use, revealed 4 facts of illegal logging and transport of trees in Imereti, Samegrelo, Kakheti, and Adjara.
The Environmental Supervision Department shared the details about this information on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, August 15, 2025. According to the details shared by the Environment Department, it should be noted that in the village of Gordi of Khoni municipality, a citizen was illegally transported 27 units of round wood (mori) and 0.5 cubic meters of a size of a beech made of illegally obtained tree-plants.
The fact contains signs of a criminal offense, and the materials were sent to the relevant agency for further response. Violations have also been identified in Martvili Municipality, where a citizen was transporting 10 cubic meters of firewood of various types by truck.
In Sagarejo Municipality, where the violator was transporting 1.2 cubic meters of hornbeam firewood, and in Shuakhevi Municipality, where a citizen had placed 4 pieces of coniferous round timber (logs) on the body of a truck stopped for inspection.
Illegal logging is a serious problem in Georgia, as it threatens the biodiversity, carbon storage, water purification, and livelihood benefits of the forest ecosystems. In addition, it should also be noted that the illegally obtained trees were cut down. Relevant documentation has been made against lawbreakers.
