The Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia found 809 facts of inconsistency with the established norm for the emission of motor vehicles in four cities, from March 1 to March 31, 2026.
525 violations have occurred in Tbilisi, 135 in Batumi, 85 in Kutaisi, and 64 in Rustavi. The Environmental Supervision Department of Georgia shared the details of the violations on its official Facebook Page on April 7, 2026, Tuesday.
In order to improve the air quality and minimize pollution from the transport sector, the Department’s inspectors carry out daily monitoring of emissions from motor vehicles operating on roads in four cities across the country.
On the other hand, Â for a legal entity, Â the fine is 500, 1500, and 3000 GEL, respectively, for first, second, and third-time violations. According to rules and regulations, if the fine is paid within 10 days, Â it will be reduced by 20%.
Currently, the Department’s vehicle emission control activities are carried out by 15 specialized crews, but in order to increase the efficiency of the detection of atmospheric air pollution from the transport sector, the number of crews has increased, with the purchase of hybrid vehicles equipped with special measuring tools.
Employees of the department are already able to check on more locations and more vehicles. As a result, control became more scalable and effective, and in the first 3 months of 2026, department staff identified 2,226 cases of non-compliance with established vehicle emission standards.
