Georgia: The Minister of Refugees, Labor, Health, and Social Protection of Georgia, Mikheil Sarjveladze, met with junior doctors and medical staff of Chkhobadze Clinic. The meeting discussed changes that will allow junior physicians to get certified while helping to fill professions that are lacking.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health, and Social Welfare of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its Official Facebook page on August 22, 2025, Friday. The Ministry also shared some details related to the discussions held at the meeting, along with its glimpses.
The mechanisms of control are also strict: to pass the certification exam, a junior physician must have successfully passed the qualification exam, completed a relevant internship, and provide a detailed account of work performed, including the number of patients passed, interventions performed, assistance in operations, and more. Eventually, the Professional Development Council will consider each candidate’s issue individually and decide to let him/her sit for the exam.
Both doctors and junior medical staff assessed this change positively. They say the decision will allow experienced junior doctors to provide clinics with significant support.
In addition, Mikheil Sarjveladze noted that the state recognizes the work of people who have been serving the population in the fields of deficit for years and said that this is a recognition of real practical experience.
According to him, the decision serves to provide, geographically, equal access to qualified medical services. Especially yes – in regions where the deficit is acute.
According to the change, employed junior doctors in scarce specialties who have already passed the Unified Post-Diploma Qualification Examination and are working in the clinic for a fixed-term residency program, until October 1, 2026, will be allowed to take the state certification exam and become independent medical practitioners.
The meeting was attended by Zaza Lominadze, Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on Health Protection and Social Affairs.
