The Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, David Songulashvili, met with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Koo Dongju, during his working visit to Rome.

Notably, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security.
The Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia shared glimpses of their meeting on its Official Facebook page on July 1, 2025, Tuesday. The Georgian Environmental Ministry also shared some information related to the discussions held at the meeting along with its glimpses.
At the meeting, David Songulashvili positively assessed the cooperation with FAO, which has significantly expanded in recent years.
The Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia stated, “The partnership between Georgia and FAO is fully aligned with our national priorities in the field of modernizing the food sector, supporting rural communities, and promoting innovations.”
According to him, FAO’s technical support has been important for the development of areas such as food safety, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable agriculture, and strengthening rural communities.
As the Minister noted, Georgia’s agricultural policy aims to develop high-quality production, which is determined by diverse soil and climatic conditions using modern knowledge and technologies. “Georgia will expand cooperation with FAO in such functional areas as forestry, aquaculture, and production of specialized products, ” added David Songulashvili.
Georgia and FAO boosts Cooperation
Minister Songhulashvili also mentioned that the country is ready to strengthen cooperation with FAO to establish inclusive, flexible, and sustainable agriculture and food systems.
The Environment Protection Minister David Songhulashvili expressed, “We welcome the development of a framework document for programmatic cooperation between FAO and Georgia for 2026-2030. ” According to David Songhulashvili, this document will play an important role in the planning process of our future cooperation.
