Lasha Talakhadze won the third gold medal in a row at the Paris Olympics. In the history of independent Georgia, he became the first athlete to win Olympic gold three times. He is also the fifth weightlifter in the history of the world to celebrate the Olympic Championship for the third time in a row. Lasha Talakhadze is the first weightlifter in the world to win Olympic gold in heavyweight three times.
Lasha Bekauri became Olympic champion for the second time in a row. He is the first Georgian judoist who celebrated the Olympic Championship twice.
For the first time in his career, Geno Petriashvili, a freestyle wrestler, celebrated the Olympic championship. In the history of independent Georgia, after judoist Lasha Shavdatuashvili, he became the second Georgian sportsman to win all three trials medals.
Judoist Tato Grigalashvili became Vice-Champion of the Olympics. Judoist Ilia Sulamanidze and freestyle wrestler Givi Macharashvili won silver medals at the debut Olympics. Boxer Lasha Guruli received a bronze medal. In the history of independent Georgia, 27-year-old Lasha Guruli became the second Georgian boxer to win an Olympic bronze medal.
The legendary bullet shooter Nino Salukvadze set the Olympic record in Paris; she is the only woman athlete in the world to have participated in the tenth Olympics.
It is noteworthy that, for the first time in history, a Georgian judoist female boys team consisting of Lasha Bekauri, Lasha Shavdatuashvili, Ilia Sulamanidze, Eter Liparteliani, Eter Askilashvili, and Sophia Somkhishvili competed in the mixed team competition at the Paris Olympics.
They remind the public that 28 athletes in ten sports were defending Georgia’s dignity in Paris. More than 10,000 athletes competed in twenty-twelve sports in Paris.
The next Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in 2028. Paris will host the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8. Notably, the Georgian Paralympic Team will compete for the first time in history with 14 paralympic athletes in six sports at the 17th Paris Summer Games.
